Appeals

Our firm’s appellate practice is headed up by Danny Zemel. Mark Krudys observes, “Danny Zemel is a unique legal talent with experience in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the appellate courts of Virginia.  He has a special ability to identify those issues upon which an appeal will turn. He sees the broader implications of possible decisions, as well as when concerns of such are unwarranted. His writing style is to-the-point and highly persuasive. Most importantly, Danny is drawn to those civil rights issues that define whether society courageously steps forward or fearfully lingers in the past. Danny will always tenaciously advocate for those who seek progress.”

“Danny Zemel has many talents, but appellate advocacy is surely one of his most impressive. Appeals are not simply trial court ‘do-overs’; they require distinctive skills and knowledge on wide ranging matters—from complex rules of appellate jurisdiction to the subtle differences between standards of review. Danny has distinguished himself in this realm and is a great choice to handle any appeal. Indeed, when the University of Richmond School of Law was looking for a faculty member to coach students in appellate advocacy, we turned to Danny. Litigators without significant appellate experience would be wise to do the same.” -John F. Preis, Associate Dean, University of Richmond School of Law.
