Danny Zemel
Danny Zemel is an associate attorney at the Krudys Law Firm where he handles cases involving federal civil rights claims, focusing primarily on police abuses and the rights of incarcerated people. He is familiar with all aspects of litigation on behalf of incarcerated people. Danny has litigated claims in local jails, regional jails, juvenile detention facilities, state prisons, and federal prisons, covering excessive force, denials of medical care, and appalling conditions, among many others. He also oversees the Firm’s appellate practice, doing both civil and pro bono criminal post-conviction work in the Virginia Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has been lead counsel on two precedential opinions from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Danny is greatly involved in the activities of the Legal Aid Justice Center here in Richmond. He is a volunteer pro bono housing attorney with them, dating back to his time as a student at University of Richmond Law, and co-teaches the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Clinic at the University of Virginia School of Law with an attorney from the Legal Aid Center. Danny also oversees other pro bono activities by the Firm. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Richmond School of Law.
